A popular South San Francisco car wash will be rebuilt into a expansive housing development under a decision by city officials seeking to revitalize a key corner of the city.

The South San Francisco City Council unanimously approved SummerHill Apartment Community’s proposal to build 172 apartments at 988 El Camino Real, home to South City Car Wash.

Congratulations SSF. Glad to see the new housing stock.

another big mistake by SSF! They are making the rich, even richer. Apartments milk people out of their money with no vested interest! The housing should be condo, where people at least own their own property/asset. Someone on the approval committee must be getting some kickback?

In disguise of needed housing, other quality of life issues are ignored by the so called representayivesof SSF. Once again the developers make their millions and the community is left to deal with the additional problems.

It's not 'in disguise' of anything, Cs. We need housing. This is housing. End of story. We still need thousands more units to make up the deficit, however.

So what is going to happen to South city Carwash??

Will any of this be affordable housing? At any rate, housing is definitely needed in the area.

A SSF city council member came by my house before the Lasl election and I asked where is the new grocery store and other nice places we could walk to and he ran away with out answering. Appartment buildings help wealthy kids collect more from the working families that really pay students loans. At least offer housing that we can invest in.
