The trial for a man accused of scheming to embezzle nearly $2.8 million from the San Mateo Woodlake Condominium Association between 2007 and 2013 is set to begin Wednesday, more than five years after he and a co-conspirator were initially accused of the scheme, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Michael Medeiros, 61, is expected to be in trial for an estimated two weeks and his alleged co-conspirator and former manager of the HOA, Susan Marie Lambert, 67, will testify, according to prosecutors.
Having pleaded no contest to felony embezzlement and felony forgery and admitted she stole more than $100,000 in September of 2016, Lambert faces three years, four months in state prison but will not be sentenced until Medeiros’ trial is over, according to prosecutors.
Lambert was the manager of the HOA when she issued nearly 150 false invoices for property improvement work that was never done. Medeiros, then 58, owned a painting company and would cash checks and split the money with Lambert, according to prosecutors.
In November of 2016, Lambert was released from jail without having to post bail while she awaits sentencing, according to prosecutors.
