o A retro-themed burger joint -- literally named Burger Joint -- will be moving into the old Towles Cafe location at 1401 Burlingame Ave. The Burlingame Planning Commission approved the plans Monday requesting changes originally proposed to the building to ensure it looks closer to what citizens recognized when it was Towles.
At the same meeting, the commission approved plans to turn a former real estate brokerage office at 1440 Chapin Ave. into a Borel Private Bank and Trust Co.
The commission also discussed environmental impacts of two different condominium projects. One project calls for the conversion of a 12-unit apartment complex into a new four-story nine-unit condominium unit at 1226 El Camino Real. The second project would turn a three building, 11-unit apartment complex into two buildings with 10 condominiums at 1509 El Camino Real.
Both projects raised major questions and concerns for the commission and will require work before returning for review. The 1509 El Camino Real project will need to be almost completely redesigned.
