• Assembly Bill 2193, authored by Assemblyman Rich Gordon, D-Menlo Park, which aims to simplify the permitting process to implement small-scale and voluntary ecosystem restoration projects, passed through the Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee Tuesday with bipartisan support.
Private landowners, nonprofit land managers, local governments and businesses wanting to restore land and waterways are unable to easily gain proper state approval to implement habitat improvement and clean-water restoration project and forgo opportunities to restore the natural habitat due to the difficulties they face in the obtaining permits, according to Gordon’s office.
AB 2193 now heads to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
• A bill expanding economic growth opportunities to certified LGBT-owned businesses passed out of the Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee. Authored by Assemblyman Rich Gordon, D-Menlo Park, Assembly Bill 1678 would require utilities to extend existing provisions granted to minority-, women-, and disabled veteran-owned business enterprises to certified LGBT-owned businesses.
