Police in South San Francisco on Tuesday arrested a woman suspected of human trafficking and rescued her alleged victim, the department said.
A tip from a neighboring law enforcement agency led detectives in South San Francisco to a hotel in the 1300 block of Veterans Boulevard, where they discovered a 17-year-old girl reported missing out of the East Coast.
Detectives went undercover to find the girl by responding to an online posting that allegedly showed her being advertised for commercial sex services.
The girl was allegedly being trafficked by San Francisco resident Liliana Mejia, 23, who was at the hotel at the time and was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking of a minor and other pimping and pandering crimes.
The girl was taken into protective custody and provided with resources and services, the police department said.
