Police chief wanted
Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente said Friday that he will recommend to Mayor Jerry Brown on Monday that he appoint an interim chief for the city's Police Department.
Richard Word, the current chief, recently announced that he will be stepping down to become police chief in Vacaville, effective Nov. 22.
But De La Fuente said Word will be taking vacation time most of the next two weeks so he thinks that an interim chief should be put in.
