On a per-share basis, the San Francisco-based company said it had a loss of 6 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 6 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 14 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 5 cents per share.
The mobile payments services provider posted revenue of $668.6 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Eight analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $623.8 million.
For the current quarter ending in July, Square said it expects revenue in the range of $740 million to $760 million.
The company expects full-year revenue in the range of $3 billion to $3.06 billion.
Square shares have risen 40 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $48.66, more than doubling in the last 12 months.
