NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. stock market is closing higher as banks recover some of their sharp losses from the day before. The S&P 500 rose 0.5% Friday and closed out its best week since early August. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.5%, and the Nasdaq composite rose 0.5%. Bank stocks rose after several reported stronger profit for the latest quarter than analysts expected. That helped steady the group, a day after the industry tumbled on worries about potentially bad loans. Some of the market’s worries ebbed after President Donald Trump told Fox News that very high tariffs on China are not sustainable.
