Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to his late-night show after ABC lifts suspension
NEW YORK (AP) — Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to late-night television after a nearly weeklong suspension. The suspension triggered a national discussion about freedom of speech and President Donald Trump’s ability to police the words of journalists, commentators and even comics. Two groups of ABC affiliates that denounced Kimmel last week said they would not carry his return on Tuesday. The two corporations collectively control about a quarter of ABC affiliates. ABC suspended Kimmel’s show following criticism of his comments about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The network announced Monday that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” would return after “thoughtful conversations” with the host.
Claudia Cardinale, star of '8½' and 'The Leopard,' dies at 87
ROME (AP) — Acclaimed Italian actor Claudia Cardinale has died at the age of 87, according to AFP. She starred in over 100 films, becoming famous for roles in Federico Fellini’s “8½” and Luchino Visconti’s “The Leopard.” Cardinale began her career at 17 after winning a beauty contest in Tunisia. She was often compared to Brigitte Bardot and worked with top directors in Europe and Hollywood. Despite partial success in Hollywood, she valued her European film roots. Cardinale was also a U.N. goodwill ambassador for women’s rights. She passed away in Nemours, France, surrounded by her children.
Sean 'Diddy' Combs now sober and humbled, his lawyers tell judge as they ask for lighter sentence
NEW YORK (AP) — Lawyers for music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs are urging a judge to sentence him early next month to no more than 14 months in prison for his conviction on two prostitution-related charges. The lawyers made their arguments Monday in a written submission to New York federal Judge Arun Subramanian. He has already rejected bail for Combs, signaling that he believes he must serve more time behind bars despite being exonerated in July of the more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges. Prosecutors, who will submit their recommendations prior to the Oct. 3 sentencing, have already said they will urge Combs stay imprisoned substantially longer than the four to five years they originally thought.

Some were in bars, sex clubs, gay clubs, and churches. At one central piazza, a band played as models displayed the brands

Gucci unveils Demna's premiere looks in Spike Jonze-Halina Reijn film starring Demi Moore
MILAN (AP) — Gucci gave the Demna era a soft hybrid launch, turning a short film red carpet on evening into a preview runway. Instead of a traditional runway show, Demna showcased his Gucci premiere looks during Milan Fashion Week on Tuesday in a short film by Spike Jonze and Halina Reijn, as well as on the film's red carpet. The film stars Demi Moore as a Gucci heiress exploring her identity through wardrobe changes. The 30-minute short, called “The Tiger,” features Moore in various Gucci outfits, including a red collared coat and a baroque floral gown. The collection, titled “La Famiglia,” was also revealed on Instagram on Monday, sparking excitement among fashion insiders. Demna took over creative direction in July.
Movie Review: 'One Battle After Another' is an American masterpiece
In Paul Thomas Anderson’s gloriously messy, madcap roller coaster ride through modern America, objects in the rear view may go out of sight, but they don’t disappear. Political struggles never die in “One Battle After Another,” they just repeat. Or maybe they grow older and become paranoid, pot-smoking, pajama-wearers like Leonardo DiCaprio's Bob Ferguson, a washed-up revolutionary living off the grid with his daughter. The cycles of oppression and resistance are palpably felt in Anderson’s film, a decades-spanning odyssey where gun violence, white power and immigrant deportations recur in an ongoing dance, both farcical and tragic, writes Associated Press Film Writer Jake Coyle in his review.
Guillermo del Toro almost lost his movie memorabilia in a wildfire. Now, he's letting some of it go
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Guillermo del Toro rose to fame creating horror movies that will likely help shape the genre for generations to come. But, at his core, the Mexican-born horror buff is a collector. Heritage Auctions announced Thursday that a fraction of del Toro's sprawling collection will be up for grabs. Del Toro told The Associated Press he felt inclined to give away some items after the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year came dangerously close to the so-called Bleak Houses, where he stores the collection. Online bidding began Thursday and the auction will take place on Sept. 26. A second and third part of the auction series will come next year.
Music Review: Geese's 'Getting Killed' is the inventive Brooklyn band's most accessible album yet
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Geese's third studio album, “Getting Killed,” showcases a shift from their previous lo-fi post-punk style to a more accessible sound. The intense opening track contrasts with the rest of the album's easy-listening vibe, writes The Associated Press’ Krysta Fauria. The album moves away from the alt-country concept of their last album. Tracks like “Cobra” and “Islands of Men” highlight soulful elements and unique structures. While the lyrics are often irreverent, Cameron Winter's distinctive voice adds depth. Fans of Geese's earlier work might feel ambivalent about the band's trajectory, but it broadens their appeal.
Why was Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show suspended and then reinstated? Here's what we know
NEW YORK (AP) — ABC will reinstate Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show after having pulled it off the air indefinitely. The unprecedented suspension followed backlash over Kimmel's remarks about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel criticized President Donald Trump and his supporters for their response, accusing them of trying to politicize the murder. The Federal Communications Commission had warned the network of repercussions if Kimmel wasn't punished. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr called Kimmel's comments “truly sick.” Two of ABC’s largest affiliates, Nexstar and Sinclair, say they won't run Kimmel's show when it returns Tuesday.
