Flag football
Carlmont 12, Menlo School 6
Despite the sport being only three seasons old, and only the second year that officially counts, the Carlmont and Menlo School flag football teams have clearly risen to the top.
And they’ve already developed quite a little rivalry. Last year, the Knights handed Carlmont it’s first-ever varsity loss, snapping the Scots’ 12-game winning streak that dated to a 10-0 record in 2023.
Menlo, meanwhile, has been on a roll. The Knights had to forfeit their first-ever game, but had won every game since.
The two powers met Friday afternoon Atherton, with Menlo taking a halftime lead on a trick play in the second quarter. But Carlmont rallied with a pair of second-half touchdowns to beat the Knights 12-6, snapping the Knights’ 41-game winning streak.
Menlo (9-1) took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter on a hook-and-lateral play. Quarterback Ava Allen connected with Sophie Housser, who then pitched it to Kaelee Woo who went the rest of the way to take the lead.

In the second half, it was time for Carlmont quarterback Lauren Greene to shine. The senior tied the score with a rushing touchdown in the third quarter. In the fourth, she hooked up with Sam Tow for the game winner.
But the Carlmont defense was just as responsible for the win. Sophia Lee finished with five sacks, Emerson Barajas had 10 flag pulls and an interception, while Tow added two picks, as well.
Menlo, which is still undefeated in league play, returned to West Bay Athletic League play against St. Ignatius Monday.
Carlmont, which is 23-0 against Peninsula Athletic League teams, returns to league play Wednesday against Burlingame. The Panthers were handed its first league loss of the season last week by Menlo-Atherton, 14-0.

In a battle of Central Coast Section heavyweights, the Knights scored the game-winning goal as time expired to beat the Pirates in a non-league match in Atherton.
Sabina Sutaria scored seven times for Menlo (8-7 overall), including the game winner. Katie Hardegree added a pair of goals for the Knighgts, while Alexys Blascovich netted one and drew three ejections. Menlo goalie Sophia Maldonado had eight saves and two assists.
