Flag football
San Mateo 19, Sacred Heart Cathedral 18
A made extra point in the first quarter proved to be the difference in the Bearcats’ non-league win over the Irish.
San Mateo (2-1 overall) led 7-0 after the first and 13-12 going into the fourth.
Bearcats’ junior quarterback Kayla Lichaa accounted for 208 yards of offense and all three touchdowns. She completed 9 of 13 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns, while also leading the team in rushing with 48 yards on just five carries, adding the Bearcats’ third touchdown.
Twin sister Zoe Lichaa finished with three catches for 80 yards and a score, while Destina Zhou, a sophomore receiver, caught the other touchdown pass, finishing with three receptions for 54 yards.
Menlo-Atherton 21, Hillsdale 0
Bears senior quarterback Mae Kunihiro threw three touchdown passes to lead M-A past the Knights.
The Peninsula, for the first time since flag football became a fully-supported sport, went to a Bay and Ocean division for 2025. Monday was a crossover schedule between the two.
M-A (3-0 overall) also got two sacks from Cassidy Thomas as the Bears defense finished with four sacks total.
Hillsdale falls to 1-2 on the season.
El Camino 15, Woodside 6
For the first time, an Ocean Division team beat a Bay Division squad when the Colts knocked off the Wildcats in their season opener.
Sophomore Bella Fernandez picked off a pair of passes, returning one for a touchdown, for El Camino (1-0 overall).
Woodside falls to 0-1.

Girls’ golf
Mills 219, Hillsdale 238
Looks like Hillsdale Kayla Corcoran has some competition this season.
Corcoran, a sophomore and the reigning Daily Journal Girls’ Golfer of the Year, had the low round of the day, carding a 2-under 33.
But she was nearly matched by Mills freshman Irene Jaewon, who was just one shot off the pace, settling for a 1-under 34. It’s the second straight match Jaewon has had the low round for the Vikings.
But it was the rest of the Mills lineup that brought home the win at Poplar Creek Golf Course in San Mateo. Angelina Chen posted a 7-over 42, Kayli Tsang carded a 45 and Christina Cheng added a 48.
Violet Agate was the only other Knight to shoot a sub-50 round, finishing with a 48.
Mills improves to 2-0 in Bay Division play, while Hillsdale falls to 0-2.
South City 194, Capuchino 206
All five scorers for the Warriors posted sub-50 rounds as they beat the Mustangs at the Mariner’s Point Golf Complex in Foster City.
Ashley Lau, a junior, led the way for South City (2-1), carding a 35 to earn low-round honors. Zoe Guevarra was a shot back with a 36, Brooklyn Lapus had a 40, Chloe Wong a 41 and Hayden Huang a 42 in rounding out the scoring for the Warriors.
Capuchino (0-1) also had all five of its scoring golfers post rounds under 50. The Mustangs were led by junior Kaylee Jimenez, who finished with a 39. Karen Rogers and Sipulieni Latu both came in with 40s. Setaita Mau and Eva Maharaj rounded out the scoring for the Mustangs with rounds of 43 and 44, respectively.
