The Bearcats, the defending Ocean Division champs, opened the 2025-26 season with a tough win over an always solid Gators squad.
San Mateo (1-0) outscored SHP (0-1) in every quarter, steadily pulling away throughout the game. The Bearcats led by after the first period, 18-15, and was up 31-24 at halftime. San Mateo extended its lead to eight by the end of the third and then held off the Gators in the fourth.
Post player Violet MacAvoy recorded a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Bearcats. Bella Fong scored a team-high 20 points, while Kaitlyn Schuh added 12 points.
SHP’s Katherine Baron led all scorers, pouring in 27 points.

Daisy Pantoja-Beltran scored 20 points to lead Aragon (1-0) to a lopsided win over Oceana (0-1).
Sequoia (1-0) scored double-digit points in the first three quarters as the Ravens routed James Lick (0-1).
Capuchino (1-0) doubled up Mercy (0-1), 42-22.
Woodside (1-0) cruised to a 52-20 win over Independence (0-1).
Boys’ basketball results
Terra Nova (1-0) cruised to a season-opening 90-51 win over Wallenberg-SF (0-1).

Drew-SF (1-0) handled Oceana (0-1) with relative ease, 71-48.
Senior midfielder Benjamin Lange opened the season with a bang, helping lead the Wildcats to the win over the Grizzlies.
Lange netted a hat trick in the first game of the season and had the assist on the fourth goal for Woodside (1-0). Lange and senior striker Daniel Artandi worked well off each other as Artandi assisted on all three Lange goals and also found the back of the net himself.
Sequoia 2, San Mateo 0
The Ravens scored a pair of first-half goals and rode that to a shutout in the season opener over the Bearcats.
Charles Hudson and Nicholas Jones each had a goal and an assist for Sequoia (1-0). Goalkeepers Max Slayen and Christopher Verdusco combined for the clean sheet, with Slayen making three saves and Verdusco a pair.

Notre Dame-Belmont (1-0) scored two goals in each half to beat Wilcox, 4-3.
Woodside (1-0), the defending PAL Bay Division champ, opened the season with a 4-0 shut out of Gunn.
