Sequoia 4, Riordan 2
The Ravens (6-5) scored three times in the top of the first and their pitching did the rest, while improving to 2-0 against West Catholic Athletic League opponents this season in a win at Riordan-SF (4-9-1). Sequoia previously earned a 3-2 win March 14 over St. Francis, now one of the frontrunners in the WCAL.
Junior slugger Morgan Winfield led the way Saturday, going 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs. Seniors Drew Ostrander and Cameron Abrams added an RBI apiece. Starting pitcher Garrett Johnson earned the win. The junior right-hander allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Junior reliever Mays Pagnotta navigated two hits and three walks to only surrender one run over 1 2/3 innings to close it out.
Riordan senior Jacob Dubriwny hit a solo home run for the Crusaders, the first homer of his three-year varsity career.
Terra Nova 11, Mountain View 8
The Tigers (8-2-1) faced two four-run deficits. They fell behind 4-0 in the first. Then, after rallying to tie it in the top of the fourth, Mountain View scored four more in the bottom of the inning to jump ahead 8-4. But Terra Nova kept swinging it, scoring five in the sixth and two more in the seventh for a statement comeback at Mountain View (9-3). It marks the eighth straight win for the Tigers, who opened the year 0-2-1.
Junior catcher Joey Donati enjoyed a big day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double and six RBIs. Sophomore Brody Finale added two hits with and RBI, and senior Luke Ornelas was 1 for 1 with three walks, an RBI and three runs scored.
Ornelas earned the win, working 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts. His record improves to 2-0.
Monta Vista 7, Summit Shasta 3
After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, Summit Shasta surrendered single runs in the first, second and fourth before Monta Vista ( ) rallied for four runs in the fifth to win in non-league action in Cupertino. Senior starting pitcher Aiden Koppes settled down after the first inning to go the distance, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Senior Caden Front paced Shasta with two hits with and RBI, while freshman Jalen Mingao had a single with two RBIs. Monta Vista freshman Kaito Miyanouchi Porter had two hits with a triple and three RBIs.
Homestead 7, Hillsdale 4
Hillsdale (5-4) led most of the way, and held a 4-2 advantage in the sixth, but Homestead (6-6) rallied for four runs in its final at-bat to win it in Cupertino. Sophomore Jacob-Charlz Gementera made his first varsity start, working 5 1/3 innings to take a no-decision. Hillsdale senior Gabriel Urquidez paced all batters with two hits, while senior Jake Belloni had a double and an RBI. Homestead junior Drew Hamburger was 0 for 3 but produced a sacrifice fly and totaled three RBIs.
James Logan 4, Burlingame 2
Burlingame (6-5) broke a scoreless tied in the fourth, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. James Logan (5-6) answered with single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie it, before winning it with a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth in Union City. A pair of junior starting pitchers locked up, with Burlingame right-hander Nick Armstrong surrendering two runs on four hits over four innings to take a no-decision. James Logan starter Marcos Jung went the distance, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out eight for the first win of his varsity career.
University 2, Half Moon Bay 0
University right-hander Tate Gebhart enjoyed the finest start of his varsity career, as the sophomore fired a five-hit shutout in a non-league win at Half Moon Bay. Gebhart faced just five over the minimum, using just 78 pitches while striking out five.
Softball
San Mateo 7, Presentation 0
Sophomore hurlers Anushka Singh and Celia Hernandez combined on the shutout, with the starter Singh striking out seven through four innings of work to earn the win in the Cancer Awareness Game at San Mateo (8-3). Freshman Aliyah Scheller paced the Bearcats’ offense with three hits, including a double and two RBIs, while sophomore Demi Alfonso also singled and drove in a run. Presentation-San Jose (4-8) was led by Allie Malatesta and Stella Mancuso with two hits apiece.
Menlo-Atherton 18, Lynbrook 2
The Bears (8-2) won its sixth straight, scoring nine in the first and nine more in the second to wrap up the three-inning, mercy-rule victory at home over Lynbrook-San Jose (2-6). M-A racked up 16 hits, with Juliana Pandolfo and Olivia Rodgers totaling three hits and three RBIs apiece, while Carey Maletis added three hits and one RBI, and Gabby Nava had two hits and two RBIs. Nava earned the win in the circle to improve her record to 6-0 with a 2.36 ERA.

The Lady Scots (3-8) split two games at the Westmont Tournament, with freshman Jordyn Sbragia leading the way against Leigh-San Jose (2-8-1), earning the win in the circle, allowing one run (none earned) on two hits through five innings of work. Freshman Miranda McCormick tabbed a single with two RBIs, while senior Zoe Wodarczyk added a double and an RBI. Against Los Gatos, the game was tied 1-1 in the fifth when the Wildcats (7-3-1) rallied for three runs. Los Gatos senior Lily Young went 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and four RBIs. Wodarczyk and McCormick paced the Scots with two hits apiece.
Westmont 4, Notre Dame-Belmont 3

Deadlocked in a 2-2 tie in the seventh with host Westmont, the Tigers (6-3) rallied for a run in the top of the seventh, but the Warriors scored twice in the bottom of the frame to walk off with the win at the Westmont Tournament. Westmont sophomore Marina Li totaled three doubles and three RBIs. Skylar Loo led NDB with two hits. Against Monterey (6-1-1), the Tigers led 1-0 in the seventh, but surrendered a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by senior Eastin Jennings. Stella Hird paced NDB with two hits, while Claire Kimball recorded an RBI.
Hillsdale 6, Maria Carrillo 0
Willow Glen 2, Hillsdale 0
The Lady Knights were party to two shutouts at the Westmont Tournament, one for and one against. Sophomore Maddie Pena whirled the shutout gem against Maria Carrillo-San Jose (5-3), facing just three over the minimum while allowing three hits and striking out four. Hillsdale totaled 12 hits in the contest, paced sophomore Ania Aleshi, who totaled three hits with a double and two RBIs. Against Willow Glen (9-0), Hillsdale pitcher Lola Jones locked up junior Alanna Clincy, and the Lady Rams’ ace won the day, allowing just one hit and two walks against nine strikeouts in the six-inning contest. Junior Mia DeMartini recorded Hillsdale’s only hit.

Menlo-Atherton 9, Sacred Heart Prep 0
Junior starting pitcher Wes Peterson fired five no-hit innings, and his bullpen surrendered just one knock as M-A (2-0 PAL Bay, 9-4 overall) recorded a one-hit shutout at Sacred Heart Prep (1-3, 5-8) to open Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division play with a two-game sweep of the crosstown Gators. Peterson allowed just one walk with two errors behind him while striking out seven. Senior relievers Tyler Rosenthal and Jimmy Zaharias closed it out, with Rosenthal yielding the only hit to SHP senior Daniel Gee. Senior Will Roberts led the Bears with a 2-for-4, three-RBI day, while senior Jack Molise added a single with two RBIs.
El Camino 4, Mission 3
Starting pitcher Quentin Bromaghim went the distance for the Colts (3-6), allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk, while striking out eight, to record the first complete game of his varsity career. Bromaghim survived a hiccup in the top of the second. After El Camino scored once in the bottom of the first, Mission-SF (2-7) swung ahead with two in the second. El Camino took the lead right back with a 2-spot in the bottom of the second. Carlos Alcala and Michael McCauley each recorded a hit and an RBI for the Colts. Mission senior Adrian Chiavarria paced all batters with two hits, including a double and an RBI.
Burlingame 5, Sequoia 4
Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, Burlingame (2-2 PAL Bay, 5-5 overall) rallied for three runs in the top of the inning to win it at Sequoia (1-1, 5-5). Senior starter Dionisios Vorrises earned his second complete game of the year, allowing four runs on 10 hits with nothing wild while striking out three. His record improves to 3-1. Junior Liam Philibosian led the Panthers with two hits and two RBIs. Sequoia senior Logan Mathias was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while Cameron Abrams and Morgan Winfield added two hits apiece.
Summit Shasta 21, Summit Tahoma 6
Senior Milo Jung went large, going 3 for 5 with a double and eight RBIs as the Black Bears (3-0 PSAL, 5-4 overall) cruised to the win over Summit Tahoma-San Jose (0-4, 0-6) at Gellert Park. Shasta scored 11 runs in the first, and tallied in every inning en route to a five-inning, mercy-rule victory. Senior Caden Front added three hits with a double and three RBIs, Aaron Mendoza and Juan Miguel Rojas had two hits and two RBIs apiece, and Maxwell Espinosa added a single with two RBIs.
Softball
Mills 13, Sequoia 3
The Lady Vikings (1-1 PAL Ocean, 9-2-1 overall) scored six times in the top of the first and never looked back, throttling to the win at Sequoia (0-1, 3-6). Mills totaled 14 hits, paced by senior Sofia Kwan, who went 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Audrey Jang and Alyssa Penas each added two hits, one double and two RBIs, and freshman Jolie Wong had a triple and two RBIs. Junior pitcher Kalia Woo earned the win, allowing three runs (none earned) on three hits with two strikeouts. Her record improves to 7-1 with a 2.18 ERA. Sequoia freshman Lulu Odom led the Ravens with two hits, while senior Jada Crockett had a double and two RBIs.
Mercy-Burlingame 30, Jefferson 0
The Bears (1-1 PAL Ocean, 4-6 overall) totaled 19 hits, seven walks and a hit batsman to claim the three-inning, mercy-rule win at Jefferson (0-2, 0-5). Aasiah Martinez Sims and Lelina Aurilio accounted for each of the Grizzlies’ two hits.
