With the game tied 4-4 in the fifth, Griffin Newby produced a two-run single to bring home Colin Krefetz and Henry Blatnik with the go-ahead runs, and Redwood City won a thriller in the elimination bracket over San Carlos at Trinta Park in San Mateo
It was one of three matchups between Redwood City and San Carlos teams throughout the four District 52 brackets Tuesday. On Wednesday night, the D52 10s tournament will feature a fourth San Carlos-RWC pairing.
RWC totaled just four hits in a winning effort. Newby led the way, going 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Blatnik added two walks and two runs scored, and Aidan Hogan was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run.
LJ Lee led San Carlos, going 1 for 3 with two RBIs, while Emma Harville added a double and an RBI.
RWC starting pitcher JJ Schaukowitch earned the win, allowing six hits over 3 2/3 innings. He allowed four runs, all unearned. Elliot Ross closed it out with 2 1/3 innings of work, allowing one unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out five.
RWC advances to play San Mateo American in an elimination game Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
San Carlos posted a 1-2 record in the tournament. Their roster includes Lee, Harville, Griffin Lucia, Bentley Hird, Alex Cha, Brandon Fong, Evan Zalabak, Dexter Carlson, Jacob Munoz, West Murphy and Callan O’Leary.
