The inaugural Central Coast Section flag football seeding meeting was held Thursday at the CCS offices in San Jose. Of the 32 teams in four brackets – Open, along with Division I, II and III — more than a quarter of them are from San Mateo County.
Half of the eight-team Open Division teams are from the county, with one each in Division I and Division III. Division two has three Peninsula Athletic League squads in the bracket.
First-round games begin Monday, semifinals are Wednesday and the championship games are scheduled for Saturday at Santa Clara High School.
Open Division
All three Atherton schools qualified as one of the top eight teams in all of the CCS.
Menlo School (13-2) earned the top seed overall seed in the CCS playoffs; fellow West Bay Athletic League team, Sacred Heart Prep (19-2), got the No. 2 seed, while PAL Bay Division champion, Menlo-Atherton (12-2), was named the No. 5 seed.
Both Menlo and SHP will host first-round games: the Knights face No. 8 Los Altos (14-8), while the Gators will welcome No. 7 Milpitas (20-6). M-A will go on the road to No. 4 St. Francis-Watsonville (20-5).
All three of those games begin at 3 p.m.
Carlmont (12-4), the Bay Division runner-up, garnered the No. 6 seed and will be in the South Bay Monday for a first-round, 7 p.m. kickoff against No. 2 Los Gatos (20-5).
Division I
Aragon (7-5) is the only county team in Division I, but with the second seed, expectations are high. The Dons will host No. 7 Santa Teresa (13-3) at 4 p.m. Monday. The winner faces the winner of No. 3 St. Francis (9-10) and No. 6 Santa Clara (10-13).
Other first-round games include: No. 8 Palo Alto (14-4) at No. 1 Branham (14-9) and No. 5 Alisal (10-6) at No. 4 Salinas (16-8).
Division II
PAL Ocean Division champion, Hillsdale (12-7), got the No. 7 seed and will go on the road. But the Knights won’t have to go too far — just across town to No. 2 San Mateo (9-4), which finished in a tie for second place in the Bay Division.

Field set for CCS championship
Not a lot of surprises for the CCS championship tournament at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey beginning Tuesday morning.
PAL regular-season team champion Mills and PAL CCS play-in winner Aragon both made the field, as did the WBAL’s Crystal, which qualified as an at-large team.
San Mateo County also had a handful of individual golfers make the field. PAL champion Tessa Lee was an automatic, as was WBAL champ Annabel Yen. Kayla Corcoran, who finished runner-up to Lee at the PAL tournament, was the only other PAL player to earn at-large bid.
Neuva had a second player, Arisa Angspatt, qualify, while a pair of Sacred Heart Prep Gators made the field: Emily Hallum and Ariane Hartandi.
