Skyline men’s soccer into final eight in Northern California
The 13th-seeded Trojans advanced to the Nor Cal regional quarterfinals for the second year in a row after knocking off No. 4 Cosumnes River-Sacramento 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Sacramento.
Skyline (13-4-5), which beat No. 20 Chabot 3-2 in the first round Wednesday and is unbeaten in its last six games, was tied with Cosumnes (12-6-3) for most of the game.
But the Trojans pulled out the win with two minutes left in regulation as Sean Rannte set up Aditya Gundimeda for the game’s only goal in the 88th minute. Matias Kramer made five saves in goal to record the clean sheet.
Up next for Skyline is a road game Tuesday with either No. 12 Feather River (18-4-0) or No. 4 Cañada (11-2-6) which met Saturday afternoon in Redwood City. The result was not available at press time.
Skyline and Cañada met once during the regular season, with the Colts posting a 3-0 shutout win Oct. 28.

CSM football opponent set
The Bulldogs, the No. 1 seed in Northern California who had a first-round bye, now knows who they will face in Saturday’s semifinal.
CSM (9-1) will host Fresno (7-4) at 1 p.m. Saturday in a rematch of a game earlier this season.
Fresno ran roughshod over San Francisco in the first round, the only team to beat CSM this season. Fresno beat CCSF 56-38 as Fresno scored 14 points in all four quarters. Fresno rushed for 403 yards, with two runners going over the 100-yard mark. Jordan Colbert led the way, finishing with 159 yards on just nine carries, averaging nearly 18 yards a carry.
Christian English was even more efficient. He averaged nearly 20 yards a carry as he finished with 137 yards on just seven carries. Between the two, that’s 296 yards on just 16 carries.
San Francisco quarterback Darius Clark-James accounted for most of the team’s 561 yards of offense. He completed 23 of 46 passes for 357 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for a team-high 142 yards on 22 carries, scoring three more touchdowns.
CSM and Fresno met in the Central Valley in September, with the Bulldogs beating the Rams 23-14. Trailing 7-3 at halftime, the Bulldogs took control of that game with a 17-point third quarter.
