Hillsdale 1, Sacred Heart Prep 0
It took someone 10 innings to finally knock off first-place Sacred Heart Prep in PAL Bay Division play.
Hillsdale finally broke through in a scoreless game, rallying for a walk-off win on a Matthew Leong RBI single in the bottom of the 10th. The Knights had the bases loaded with one out when Leong shot a long fly ball to center that fell to score Antonio Paolinelli with the game-winner.
Hillsdale starting pitcher Jason Alba was nails in just his third start of the year. The junior fired seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Jaxon Skidmore entered in the eighth and fired three no-hit innings to combine on the one-hitter.
Softball
St. Francis 11, Notre Dame-Belmont 3
St. Francis-Mountain View rallied for seven runs in the first inning and Notre Dame-Belmont committed five errors in a lopsided non-league matchup.
NDB pitcher Madi Earnshaw entered in relief with no outs in the first inning and worked seven innings for a no-decision, yielding five runs (one earned) on nine hits.
The Tigers totaled six hits, with Noosha Steward going for a 3-for-4 day.
Badminton
Burlingame 14, San Mateo 1
San Mateo’s Vivian Yao at No. 1 girls’ singles had the lone victory for the Bearcats 21-9, 21-10 as Burlingame dominated in coed varsity badminton action. Burlingame’s boys’ singles — No. 1 Joey Zhang, No. 2 Jason Fong and No. 3 Justin Lee — each swept their matches, as did Panthers mixed doubles, No. 1 Justin Banquiles and Emily Tan; No. 2 Matthew Basesman and Brianna Mankong; and No. 3 Robert Chin and Annie Sun.

Gunderson 8, Sequoia 5
Sequoia (2-12 overall) rallied late but it wasn’t enough to get past Gunderson-San Jose in non-league play. The loss marks the eighth straight for Sequoia. The Cherokees trailed 8-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh and rallied for four runs, then loaded the bases to bring the potential winning run to the plate. Paul Garcia had an RBI double in the seventh for Sequoia.
Travis Mathieu made his first start of the year for the depleted Cherokees, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits over three innings. His record falls to 0-2. Kian Mirkia made his varsity debut at shortstop for Sequoia, tabbing two hits.
St. Francis-Watsonville 3, Carlmont 1
Contact was at a premium as each team struck out 11 times, but St. Francis-Watsonville was able to break a 1-1 tie by generating a two-run rally in the fourth inning against Scots starting pitcher Jordan Brandenburg. Brandenburg totaled six punch-outs and reliever Lucas Billot emerged in the sixth and struck out five over two shutout frames for Carlmont (9-7 overall).
Badminton
Hillsdale 10, San Mateo 5
Hillsdale’s depth won the day as the Knights relied on their No. 2 and 3 seed teams to get past San Mateo. Hillsdale No. 2 girls’ single Vivian Luc and No. 3 Meddy Andaya each won in three sets, while No. 2 boys’ single Jason Lin and No. 3 Wesley Hwa also recorded victories. The Knights followed the same formula at boys’ doubles, where No. 2 Eric Kim and Anton Nguyen, and No. 3 Grant Law and Dinh Poon also earned victories.
For San Mateo, No. 1 girls’ single Vivian Yao won 21-5, 21-8; No. 1 boys’ single Trevor Tan got past Brenden Cheung 21-19, 21-18; No. 1 girls’ doubles Julia Richardson and Julia Chen won 21-13, 21-7; and No. 1 mixed doubles Kaiana Fong and Isaac Mo defeated Namita Hedge and Shinichi Sato 21-19, 21-17.
College baseball
Ohlone 5, Cañada 4
Cañada (7-7 Coast Pacific, 17-18 overall) let a pair of two-run leads slip away and first-place Ohlone (11-0, 27-6) rallied for an 11-inning win in Fremont. Colts starter Nate Loveless and reliever Chris Zaldana worked 5 1/3 innings apiece, but Ohlone got to Zaldana with a two-out rally in the 11th. Cody Nisbet drew a two-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then AJ Curtis ended it with a walk-off RBI double. Cañada totaled nine hits on the day, with two apiece from Jesus Jimenez, Sergio Noriega, Roman Satroplus and Tyler Brandenburg.
Skyline 9, Gavilan 3
Skyline (4-7, 8-24) rallied for three runs in the eighth and three more in the first game of a doubleheader with last-place Gavilan (2-12, 6-25). The Trojans banged out 15 hits, with Ramon Enriquez going 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI. Max Jenkins added three hits for Skyline. The Trojans dropped the second game of the twin bill 8-5. Mitchel Swanson impressed in two starts at third base, just his second and third start of the year at the hot corner, going 4 for 10 with a home run and four RBIs through both games.
