Is your dog lonely? Does your cat want to show off those funny self portraits just wasting space on the memory card? From the makers of DateMyPet.com comes MyDogSpace.com and MyCatSpace.com — a place where animals and animal lovers can share stories, pictures and discuss local issues. Robert Yau and his dog Hershey announced the expansion yesterday.
"Before we began MyDogSpace.com, there were forums and Web sites for pet owners, but no central online community for those who love dogs,” Yau wrote in a press release. "It finally occurred to me that dog owners of all ages would enjoy their own online space, a central hub, to connect to other dog owners for advice, sharing stories, friendship and meeting up for doggie play dates.”

Reggae music will be bumping in Belmont Saturday to help find a cure for the ailment facing 2-year-old Ariana Kallas — Morquio syndrome.
The benefit, "Reggae For A Cure,” runs from 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Aug. 4 at Chris’ New Harbor, 150 Harbor Blvd. in Belmont. There’s a $20 suggested cover with 100 percent of the proceeds going toward research of Morquio syndrome. Dub FX, Native Elements, Baldread & The Raggamuffin Crew and Culture Canute & the Iration Band will be performing.
Morquio syndrome is caused when a child is missing an enzyme essential in cutting up mucopolysaccharide — a product normally used in developing healthy bones and cartilage. Physical growth slows and often stops in affected children around 8 years old. For more information visit www.arianascure.com.

San Carlos residents looking to go green and save some, too, can participate in the Solar City Community Solar Discount program. The program offers businesses and residents a substantial discount on photovoltaic solar installations through a group purchasing program. With a citywide minimum of 50kW of installed solar, participants can save 15 to 20 percent on typical solar installation and service costs if they sign-up by Aug. 27. The program already has 19 households signed up, said Assistant City Manager Brian Moura and the city hopes to get more at an Aug. 16 presentation held in the San Carlos Library. Those who sign up by Aug. 17 can save even more by entering a drawing for an extra $3,000 discount. More info can be had by calling 1-888-SOL-CITY.
