Editor,
Trump is supposed to be a genius from the Wharton School of Business, but he is so deficient of facts.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that the United States is subsidizing Canada with $200 billion in trade, and therefore he has placed tariffs on their exports to the United States. Why? Canadians spend more per capita importing from us than we do importing from Canada.
Our average trade deficit with Canada from 2022 to 2024 is $68.6 billion, not $200 billion. Our total trade deficit with Canada over those three years is $205.8 billion, so in a way, he is right. However, given the United States has a much larger population, it is obvious that we import more than Canada. However, the average per capita import expenditure by Canada over those three years is $8,766 compared to $1,262 by the United States. Explain to me again how Canada is unfair in trade? Trump’s secretary of education should have Trump sit down and watch the various videos by Ronald Reagan, a real Republican, talking about how tariffs are a terrible idea. Perhaps, he will learn something for once, instead of fabricating alternate realities.

Far from a genius! According to his teachers, Trump was the dumbest student they had ever had! Which is confirmed by what he says and does!
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Perencin, repeating the Democrat playbook in providing only a biased and simplistic view of tariffs in an attempt to demean Trump and his efforts at Making America Great Again. As for Canada being unfair in trade, how much are their tariffs on American products? There you go. And why would we believe your assertion that Trump is supposed to be a genius and yet deficient of facts? After all isn’t Trump a multi-billionaire and the POTUS, twice? What are your qualifications? If anything, you should be thanking our (yes, our) great President Trump for cleaning up the mess from Biden/Harris/autopen wielder. BTW, if Reagan said tariffs are a terrible idea, why did he impose tariffs on Japan?
