The front page above the fold is where the big stories of the day are. I would like to thank the police, school administrators and everybody else involved with ensuring that the incident (“Police: Man in custody after making threat”) that was included in the March 27 edition of the Daily Journal remained a local issue with a positive resolution, rather than another national-headline tragedy. You are all heroes.
As for the would-be shooter, there is a reason why it is illegal to make jokes about hijacking at an airport. In a time of heightened fears and increased mass-casualty incidents, there is nothing “funny” about making comments about shooting up a school. Those who reported and investigated this incident were right to treat it seriously despite believing there was no serious intent. We see it in the post-incident articles all the time: people who heard and ignored comments or hints from the future shooter instead of taking them seriously.
Thank you again for keeping San Mateo County and our children safer.
