Editor,

California Sen. Alex Padilla has co-sponsored the “Sunshine Protection Act of 2025” (S.29). If it passes it would put the U.S. on year-round (permanent) daylight saving time. If you would prefer year-round standard time (PST) instead, this is a good time to send a message to Sen. Padilla, as well as our other two federal government representatives, namely, Sen. Adam Schiff and Congressman Kevin Mullin.

I am one of the few who would prefer the time change, as annoying as it might be. Permanent standard time would result in wasted daylight at 4:30 am (or earlier further north) in summer. Earlier sunsets result in fewer opportunities for outdoor recreation after work or school hours. Yet permanent Daylight Saving Time would mean very dark mornings with sunrise at 8:00 or 9:00 in the winter, and kids going to school in the dark. Permanent ST people are very outspoken and argue that ST is more "natural" and "healthy" but which ST are they talking about? Sunrise/sunsets will always differ by up to an hour depending on where in the timezone one lives.

So I am Team Keep the Time Change. It's a great compromise (invented by Ben Franklin!) that takes all preferences into account.

Previously, I was okay with changing time to one standard or another but since Padilla is a Democrat, I’m going to take a page out of their playbook and take the opposite approach. I’m now okay with keeping the time change and agree with MichKosk’s argument. I now see the light, whether via DST or ST.

Haha Terence you have Democrat Derangement Syndrome!

That's a good one, MichKosk. I hope I don't get hit up for dental advice since I have a DDS. How about that Democrat Street Fighter-esque video? I guess I can no longer support Street Fighter games. Me sad.

Leave the clocks alone. Noon should be when the sun is at its highest point in the sky, if you are near the middle of the time zone. Just do everything an hour earlier (or two hours earlier) in the summer. That what people did for many centuries before DST was implemented to force factory workers to start earlier to increase wartime production and conserve coal. More recently, the most ardent supporters have been the golf course lobby trying to create enough daylight hours for a round of golf after work.

Everyone should look up who Jacob Schiff was - he was the original George Soros - he funded both sides of the Civil War and made sure The Jesuit Order was always the hidden hand in America. There is a reason why Adam Schiff is allowed to stay in such power positions - despite being an absolute blithering idiot.
