I submitted a printed letter to editor fairly dripping with sarcasm with “concern” about Russian hacking of conservative websites and resulting angst for Republicans in contrast to the indifference when it was directed at Democrats. Though I would bet my last dollar the editor got my intent, apparently my sarcastic humor was a little too opaque for some readers and I was chastised in letters for supporting that which I was actually making fun of. Eminent British psychologist Geoffrey Hinton was quoted saying “Computers will understand sarcasm before Americans do.” Sigh.
