It’s not the what but the when. The national anthem is a sole/separate entity/function in itself to show respect for the flag and the country. Anything done to distract from showing respect and allegiance during this moment is disrespectful, no matter what the purpose or cause.
If teams, individuals or groups want to further a cause or purpose, they can chose to do it before the game (not during anthem time), at half time, during an intermission or after the game. They can also do it at a site or function away from the game. Oh, that might mean they would have to do it on their own time and at their expense. Too bad because they have so much money and time. There are numerous options for presenting causes. Do not do it during the national anthem.
