Editor,
If you’ve been observing the actions of our present federal government, you might be wondering what type of government we have. I believe it’s a fascist one. Establishing a fascist government typically involves a series of steps.
Charismatic leadership: Fascist movements center around a strong charismatic leader who promises to restore national pride and unity. This leader typically uses rhetoric that appeals to emotions, nationalism, and a sense of crisis.
Propaganda and control of media: Fascist regimes use propaganda to promote their ideology and suppress dissent.Control over media outlets allows the government to shape public perception and eliminate opposing viewpoints.
Scapegoating and division: Fascists identify a common enemy or scapegoat (such as ethnic minorities, political opponents, or foreign nations) to unify their supporters and justify their actions. This creates an “us vs. them” mentality.
Undermining democratic institutions: Fascists seek to weaken or dismantle democratic institutions, such as the judiciary, legislature, and free press, to consolidate power. This can involve manipulating elections, curtailing civil liberties, and bypassing legal norms.
Economic control and corporatism: Fascist regimes implement economic policies that favor certain industries or groups, often through state intervention. This can include partnerships with businesses that align with the regime’s goals.
Legal framework: Fascist governments create laws that legitimize their actions and suppress opposition, framing these laws as necessary for national security or public order. If your observations have been the same as mine, then wake up, stand up, speak up. Our democracy depends on it.

Thank you, Mr. Douglass, for a nice summary of our current sad state of affairs.
100% true, Mr. Douglass, thank you. Pay no attention to the Russian propagandists in our midst.
Ah, the leftists are running out of ammunition. We are back to the Russians again.
Me thinks it would help persons like Mr. Douglass if he would not consult a dictionary to describe fascism. Instead it would take more time and effort to study the rise of Hitler, Mussolini, Mao and Stalin, to find out what a true fascist is. But, it seems he could not bother with finding the truth so he just plasters his comments with mindless blather.
I guess we have nothing to fear from fascism as the Dems control most the media, education and unions.
Control the media? Not really. Control education? Education is independent of politics, as it should be.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Douglass, but in your series of steps, your “Propaganda and control of media” step is nowhere close to applying to our (yes, our) great President Trump. If you didn’t have the mainstream media and their TDS, where would you get your talking points? In reality, outside of federal government and your “Charismatic leadership” step, we could easily apply your steps to King Newsom and his policies. Methinks we know who you’re discussing, and it’s not President Trump. BTW, if Trump were a fascist, why didn’t he turn us into a fascist nation during his first term? Next talking point, please, as this one failed. Bigly.
