On February 17, 2026, Violetta “Rena” Fregosi entered eternal rest, surrounded by the love she so generously gave throughout her life. Born in San Francisco on January 1, 1960, to Tony Tamayo and Marie Acosta-Tamayo, Rena grew up strong, independent, and spirited. She graduated early from Aragon High School, and soon after married Kevin Fregosi, the love of her life. Though widowed far too young in 1980 while caring for their infant daughter, Rena met life’s challenges head-on—with grit, grace, and determination. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly to build a secure and loving home for her daughter, Christina. Through decades of dedication—at Metromedia, FILA, Coors, Riccomi Construction Services, Creative Cremains -where she was a co-owner, and D&J Tile Company—she embodied perseverance and integrity. Rena’s life was rich with adventure and heart. From horseback riding, hiking, and Sea Scouts to cherished childhood trips to the Russian River, she loved the outdoors. She lived and studied in Hawaii as a teen, and her love of travel later took her to Canada, Mexico, Italy, and Greece. Sisters’ weekends and California “gal pal” getaways filled her with joy. She was artistic, musical, and spirited—a woman who valued hard work, loyalty, and truth. A proud fan of Judge Judy and Dr. Laura, Rena believed in tough love delivered straight and honest. An avid animal lover, Rena cared for many feathered and furry companions over the years, including a duck, parrot, rabbit, hamster, birds, cats, fish, and many beloved dogs. She made her home in Redwood City for 47 years and cherished her community. Her Catholic faith sustained her, especially in her final months. As a parishioner of St. Pius Catholic Church in Redwood City, she found deep comfort in the Eucharist, the Sacraments, and time spent at Mass and Adoration with her family. Above all, Rena loved fiercely. She adored her daughter Christina and son-in-law Rodel, and her granddaughter Charlotte was her heart. She cherished her family; sisters, Liz Aquila (Ron) and Yvonne Tinline (Ross); her stepmother, Puanani Huggins (beloved Ohana); her father-in-law, Leonard Fregosi (Fay+); and sister-in-law, Gina Fregosi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kevin Fregosi; her parents; and her older sister, Tyra McGrath (Bernard). Rena is also lovingly remembered by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, Godchildren, and dear friends. Rena’s strength, resilience, honesty, and warrior spirit leave an enduring legacy. Though her absence is deeply felt, her example of courage, compassion, and steadfast love will continue to guide those who knew her. A private Catholic Funeral Service, internment, and Celebration of Life will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Medical Equipment Loan Program (MELP/AbleCloset), 1063 E. San Carlos Avenue, San Carlos, CA.
