Julius Anthony Console, also known to some as Julio, the ‘General’ and the ‘Godfather,” died peacefully in San Mateo Nov. 13, 2009 at the age of 87.
He was a loving husband to Evelyn for the past 64 years, and a devoted father to Joanne Demby of Florida, Janet Allgire of San Mateo, Anthony "Tony” Console of El Sobrante and cherished grandpa to Jessica Allgire of San Mateo. He was a caring brother to Dominic and Paul Console of Wetherfield, Conn. He is also survived by son-in-law Jeff Demby of Florida and Russell Allgire of San Mateo, sister-in-law Christine Console of Wethersfield, Conn. and Gloria Pell of Glastonbury, Conn., as well as many nieces and nephews in Connecticut and friends in the Bay Area. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Frances Console. Julio was born in Hartford, Conn. on Feb. 20, 1922. He relocated with his family to Burlingame, Calif. in 1966, where he worked as a furniture refinisher until 1972, when he then opened Plaza Cyclery (Bike Shop) in the Burlingame Plaza. After retirement, he continued to work at Baggies Liquor, also in the Burlingame Plaza. He was a self-taught man, reading three newspapers per day and loved to have conversations with friends and family about current events and life in general. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, the 49ers and Giants, but most of all spending time with his family. He is greatly loved and dearly missed. He will be in our hearts and memories forever.
Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the Chapel of the Highlands, 194 Millwood Drive at El Camino Real in Millbrae from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Dunstan Catholic Church, 1133 Broadway in Millbrae.
