Joan Kathryn Lutz, born Jan. 31, 1929, died Dec. 27, 2018, from complications due to kidney failure just shy of her 90th birthday.
“Joan was a woman of great independence and ability who loved to travel and did so extensively. She was loved by all those that met her.”
She was born in Flourtown, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. She came to California after living in Japan with her parents, then struck out on her own, attending school in the Midwest. She worked at United Airlines for 40 years where she met her husband George Lutz and some of her dearest friends.
She is survived by two sons John Jünkerman and Michael Lütz; two grandchildren Eric and Heather Jünkerman; and three great-grandchildren Kyle, Fiona and Jace.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at the Burlingame Recreation Center located at 850 Burlingame Ave., 1 p.m. Feb. 23. Donations can be made in her honor to her favorite charity, the American Cancer Society, to fight a disease she believed was well overdue for eradication.
