David Pucci was named the new fire chief for the Central County Fire Department, replacing Bruce Barron, who retired in October after a 32-year career with the department.
The appointment was announced by Lisa Goldman, Burlingame city manager and chief administrative officer for the department.
“The Central County Fire Department launched a nationwide recruitment to fill this critical position with the department. I’m thrilled that we found a strong leader in Chief Pucci, and I’m confident in his ability to lead the department and serve the Burlingame, Hillsborough, and Millbrae communities,” Goldman said in a press release.
A Bay Area native, Chief Pucci grew up in Pacifica and currently lives on the San Mateo County coast. His public safety career began in law enforcement working as a Police Officer for the City of Mountain View. Pucci decided to move to the fire service and was hired by Redwood City Fire Department in 1997 as one of the first paramedics for that agency. He rose through the ranks over the years and became deputy fire chief in 2016.
Pucci has been heavily involved in emergency management and has led disaster preparedness for Redwood City since 2005. Pucci serves on a state emergency management team and has responded to over 30 disasters and wildfires throughout California since 2009. Pucci achieved the designation of Certified Emergency Manager from the International Association of Emergency Managers in 2011.
Pucci will be sworn into his new position at a Badge Pinning ceremony in May.
