A man was arrested for a DUI early Thursday morning after California Highway Patrol officers responded to an initial report of a vehicle into an embankment in Redwood City.
Officers received the call at 1:48 a.m. at northbound Highway 101 and Whipple Avenue. When they arrived on scene, they found there was no collision and the vehicle, a Geo Prizm, was not in an embankment.
The vehicle was stopped at the Whipple Avenue off-ramp, according to the CHP, and the car was smoking.
The fire department was called as a precaution but the cause of the fire is unknown, according to the CHP.
The driver was arrested and booked into jail for a DUI. No one was injured in the incident, according to the CHP, but officers did not confirm whether there were other passengers in the car.
The off-ramp was briefly closed but the scene was cleared and the road was reopened as of 3:30 a.m.
