A Chinese national who allegedly abused the days-old baby she was nannying in Hillsborough has been charged with five counts of child abuse, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The woman, 56-year-old Guitian Lui, fled back to China after being fired by the family — per the DA’s Office, Wagstaffe said. A warrant will likely be issued for her arrest once the charges are processed, though it will only be applicable within the United States.
Lui, a Fremont resident living with her daughter, was hired to be a nanny for the family on a three-month contract, Wagstaffe said. The alleged conduct — including striking and jerking the infant — occurred between Sept. 27 and Oct. 2, 2024. The child was born Sept. 22, making her five days old when the alleged abuse occurred.
The behavior was discovered when the child’s father was watching a live Nest camera and saw Lui behaving aggressively with the infant. After firing her, he revisited the Nest camera, where footage from prior days allegedly showed Lui continuing to abuse the baby.
The baby was taken for medical treatment and did not have any physical injuries, Wagstaffe said.
