A Half Moon Bay man has been charged with three felony assault counts and two drug possession charges for allegedly attacking a man he believed to be engaged in sexual intercourse with his girlfriend, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Josef Holloway, allegedly attacked the victim on Dec. 18 in El Granada after finding him asleep in his girlfriend’s car, Wagstaffe said. He allegedly dragged the victim out, attacking him and hitting him multiple times in the head with a hard object.
At about 7:45 p.m., coastside deputies were dispatched to the location on the report of the victim, badly injured and bleeding profusely from his head, running through traffic on Highway 1 in the area of Coronado Street and Obispo Road in El Granada. He was taken to a nearby hospital and received treatment, Wagstaffe said.
The victim said he had met the woman at local convenience store More For Less and was under the impression the pair were going to have a one night stand. The woman disputed that claim and said she wanted to help him because she thought he was homeless and the two simply fell asleep in her car and did not engage in sexual intercourse. Both said that Holloway attacked the victim.
Holloway, by contrast, told police that the other man had started the alleged altercation, Wagstaffe said.
He is being held on $50,000 bail and pleaded not guilty to the charges. A preliminary hearing will be held Jan. 3.
