• Assembly Bill 2515, authored by Assemblymember Diane Papan, D-San Mateo, and known as the T.A.M.P.O.N. Act (Take All Menstrual Product PFAS Out Now), to mandate the removal of toxic chemical from menstrual products, has been approved by the California Legislature and enrolled to the governor.
The legislation aims to address the adverse health impacts of PFAS (polyfluoroalkyl substances) in menstrual products, prioritizing the well-being of women, girls, and individuals who use these essential products. Assembly Bill 2515 requires the Department of Substance Control (DTSC) to set a maximum contamination threshold and identify testing methods for all menstrual products by 2027. Additionally, the bill mandates manufacturers of menstrual products register compliance with DTSC and sets out enforcement guidelines, according to Papan’s staff.
The governor has until Sept. 30 to sign or veto legislation.
• The California Legislature approved Senate Bill 1374, authored by Senator Josh Becker, D-Menlo Park, which requires the CPUC to update its tariffs to treat properties with multiple meters the same way they are treating single-family homes and non-residential customers with a single meter.
A recent decision by the California Public Utilities Commission had forced these customers to sell their self-generated solar energy to utilities at low rates and then buy it back – at the same time – at much higher rates, according to Becker’s office.
The governor has until Sept. 30 to sign or veto legislation.
