A man who was caught posing with items stolen from a Redwood City home in an Instagram post in 2016 was sentenced to eight months in county jail and three years probation Wednesday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Jawan Thompson, 20, pleaded no contest to felony residential burglary in June, admitting to his involvement in three burglaries of the same home in 2015 and 2016, according to prosecutors.
After cash, clothing and purses were stolen from the same Redwood City house twice in October of 2015, the homeowner’s daughter noticed an Instagram post in which Thompson and Brittany Thomas, 20, were posing with purses stolen from her home, according to prosecutors.
On Jan. 13, 2016, Thompson texted the homeowner to make sure she wasn’t home after she posted photos of some of her possessions online. Items were stolen from the home after someone entered it through an unlocked window, and the homeowner texted Thompson telling him he was caught on tape, according to prosecutors.
The homeowner then contacted police, who contacted Thompson and Thomas and found some of the stolen property in Thomas’ possession, according to prosecutors.
Thomas pleaded no contest to felony possession of stolen property in February and was sentenced to two years probation and 30 days in county jail after her conviction was reduced to a misdemeanor, according to prosecutors.
