Cold morning temperatures will persist through Monday throughout the Bay Area, posing risks to drivers, homeless people and animals, National Weather Services officials said.
Nightly temperatures are expected to plunge with isolated areas possibly dropping into the teens.
Saturday morning lows will be in the upper 20s to low 30s in outlying areas and in the mountains. Urban and coastal areas will see temperatures in the mid 30s to low 40s.
Temperatures Sunday and Monday mornings will drop as low as the mid 20s to low 30s in the mountains and outlying areas while urban and coastal areas are expected to drop into the low to upper 30s.
The cold weather will cool roads where black ice could form, making driving treacherous.
Weather officials said thunderstorms and snow in the mountains are possible, though the amount of snow will be limited at best. Still, weather officials said 3 to 5 inches could accumulate in some areas.

Light to moderate intensity thunderstorms are possible today, Saturday and Sunday.
Weather officials said the cold temperatures means homeless people and people with limited shelter may suffer hypothermia.
Signs of hypothermia include confusion, shivering, difficulty speaking, sleepiness and stiff muscles. Everyone is encouraged to dress in layers, cover exposed skin and to limit their time outside.
Additionally, weather officials encourage residents to bring their pets indoors. Livestock may need shelter too.
The cold weather may damage crops, especially in interior valleys.
Tuesday will be warmer with a slight chance of rain from Tuesday through Friday, weather officials said.
