Bail remains at $1 million for a Menlo Park middle-school coach accused of seducing a 14-year-old volleyball player more than a decade ago while police continue investigating three other possible victims.
Bill Giordano, 59, declined to enter a plea yesterday to 28 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor more than 10 years his junior. Giordano stayed out of public view during his brief court appearance, only speaking once to agree to the delay until Sept. 9. Defense attorney William Stewart indicated at Monday's arraignment he planned to ask for a bail reduction if prosecutors weren't alleging any other victims. However, he did not raise the matter once Wednesday afternoon.
Stewart declined comment after the hearing.
Prosecutor Melissa McKowan stayed fairly mum on the pending investigations but said Monday that at least one other victim was being considered. Giordano faces up 25 years in prison if convicted plus mandatory registration as a sex offender. Conviction on charges stemming from multiple victims could hypothetically carry a one-strike sentence, imposing mandatory life in prison. For now, though, prosecutors are focusing only on the initial victim who came forward.
