Whoever stole a purse from a minivan in Millbrae this summer may well be a witness to murder, Hillsborough police announced Wednesday.
Investigators are asking for the public's assistance in locating those involved with the burglary.
As part of an ongoing investigation into the June 19 home-invasion robbery and murder of Priscilla Ng, police are investigating a series of vehicle burglaries that occurred in between January and June of 2004 in the western hills of Millbrae, Burlingame and Hillsborough.
Investigators are specifically looking for the person or people who stole a purse from a gold-colored Plymouth Voyager near the intersection of Sebastian and Lasuen drives in Millbrae on June 16, three days prior to the murder.
Police say two Asian male suspects attacked Ng, 58, and her friend Andrew Chang in Ng's Butternut Drive home, tied the victims with phone cord and taped their faces. Ng died of asphyxiation. Chang was seriously injured but survived to call the police.
Police believe the killers escaped the murder scene in the victim's vehicle, a 1993 Lexus, which was found on June 22 at a Burlingame shopping center about three miles from Ng's home.
A $30,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest or conviction of those responsible for Ng's death.
Anyone with information related to the vehicle burglaries or homicide investigation is asked to call Inspector Nelson Corteway at (650) 375-7552 or the department's information hotline at (650) 375-7473.
Callers may remain anonymous and the message is conveyed in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
