Bicycle Sunday in San Mateo County will not be held this week because of the Memorial Day holiday, meaning Canada Road will be open to vehicle traffic on Sunday.
A 3.8-mile stretch of the road along Crystal Springs Regional Trail is usually closed on Sundays to free up space for bicyclists, pedestrians and other non-motorized activities. The program is suspended on certain holiday weekends to free up staffing for county parks.
The county Parks Department advised motorists and bicyclists to share the road, and drivers to drive at the speed limit and be prepared to slow down.
The program operates from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will resume on June 1.
The next suspension of Bicycle Sunday will come on July 6 for the Independence Day holiday weekend. Other Sundays that Canada Road will remain open for vehicles are Aug. 31 and Oct. 12.
