The San Mateo County Bar Association’s Annual Judges’ Night took place on June 7 at the Pullman San Francisco Bay Hotel in Redwood City. The evening offered the legal community an opportunity to honor the judiciary in a relaxed, social setting. FREE LEGAL ADVICE FOR THE PUBLIC. Legal matters can be confusing. Volunteer San Mateo County lawyers, Bay Area Legal Aid, the Legal Aid Society and the San Mateo County Superior Court work to help make things more manageable. The following assistance is available:
CONSUMER LAW CLINIC. The San Mateo Law Library offers a free Consumer Law Clinic sponsored by Bay Area Legal Aid every Monday starting at 10 a.m. The clinic meets in the Law Library Conference Room, 710 Hamilton St., Redwood City. A spot may be reserved by calling 358-0745.
MEET A LAWYER IN THE LIBRARY. A lawyer is available for a free, one-on-one, 20-minute consultation on a variety of legal issues at the San Mateo County Law Library on the fourth Wednesday of the month between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. On Wednesday, June 27, the subjects are estate planning, landlord/tenant and Business law. On July 25, the topics are wills, trusts, probate, power of attorney and advanced health care. You must sign up for a time slot by calling 363-4913. 710 Hamilton St., Redwood City. Events take place at other libraries as well. On June 20 at the Millbrae Library from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the subjects are personal injury, insurance claims, Social Security, Medicare and civil disputes. Sign up at 697-7607. On Aug. 7 at the Belmont Library from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. the subjects are probate, estate planning and trust litigation. Sign up at 591-8286.
LEGAL ADVICE HOT-LINE. Bay Area Legal Aid offers a Legal Advice Line for low-income Bay Area residents Monday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call (800) 551-5554 for more information.
SMALL CLAIMS ADVISOR. The San Mateo County Superior Court offers a Small Claims Advisor to assist with Small Claims every Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the second floor Conference Room of 400 County Center, Redwood City. Call 363-4303 for more information.
