1,000 Backpacks for Low-Income Students: Gilead & Samaritan House

One-hundred Gilead Sciences employees joined Samaritan House Tuesday, June 3, to pack 1,000 backpacks with school supplies for students from low-income families across San Mateo County. The backpacks are part of Samaritan House’s Backpack-Giveaway, which will serve nearly 2,500 children in rising K-12th grades this August. Gilead has supported the nonprofit since 2004, contributing over $2.5 million and extensive volunteer hours. In recognition, CEO Laura Bent presented Gilead with the Outstanding Corporate Partner Support Award and a certificate from state Sen. Josh Becker’s office.

‘This is giving at its best, not just writing checks, but showing up,’ said Bent.
