Celebrate the dead
Dia de Los Muertos. The Day of the Dead. Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma invites the entire Peninsula community to participate in this joyful celebration, which honors the lives of the deceased and celebrates the belief that death is not the end but rather the beginning of a new stage of life.

Ghost appeal
South San Francisco’s Halloween Extravaganza, "Ghost Island Motel,” invites you for a "ghostly” event Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Municipal Services Building, 33 Arroyo Drive.
There is a walking tour of the Haunted House, a Halloween Game Room and entertainment, including "Marcus Raymond – Escape Artistry, Magic and Juggling” and "Creepy Insect Lab.” Food and refreshments will be sold. Tickets are $5 per person.

Downtown San Mateo’s Halloween Fun Fest is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Third Avenue and San Mateo Drive. There is a Jump House, a DJ playing children’s music, and a pumpkin patch where children can pick out and decorate a pumpkin. Police cadets will be fingerprinting and the fire department has a truck on hand. This event, including ice cream, pizza samples, and beverages, is completely free, presented courtesy of Smalltown, Red Brick Pizza and the Downtown San Mateo Merchant’s Association.
A spooky outing
Redwood City’s Halloween Spooktakular takes place Saturday noon until 3 p.m. at Red Morton Community Center, 1120 Roosevelt Ave. Kids can thrill to carnival games, show off their Halloween attire in a costume parade at 1:30 p.m., experience the slime of the Gooey Mad Scientist Lab, and create Halloween mementoes with crafts projects. The Spooktakular is suitable for children up to age 10. Admission is $5 per child.
Parading around town
Menlo Park’s Halloween Hoopla starts with a Halloween Costume Parade at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Burgess Recreation Center, 700 Alma Street, where a Halloween Carnival and trick or treating is underway from 1 to 3 p.m. $3 for kids, adults free.

Half Moon Bay’s Happy Halloween Carnival, an "unspooky” event for children 3 to 8, is under way Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Community Center, 535 Kelly Ave. Dress up in your costume, wander through the maze of games, and win prizes and Halloween treats. Be spellbound by a special performer and bounce in the Jump House. Admission is $4. Parents must accompany their children.
