NEW YORK (AP) — Monday's glittering Met Gala guests will be the first to sample “Costume Art,” a new exhibit that explores the dressed body through art history. Curator Andrew Bolton says the exhibit aims to reclaim diverse body types. Those include corpulent, disabled, aging and pregnant bodies. The show features 25 new mannequins, painstakingly created on real people with various body types. Highlights include garments that emphasize the pregnant body, and corsetry that displays rather than hides the flesh. There is also a section that explores various types of disability — physical, sensory and cognitive. The show opens May 10 to the public and runs through Jan. 10, 2027.

Shakira thrills a crowd of 2 million with free concert on Brazil's Copacabana beach

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Shakira has performed a free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian city's mayor said 2 million people attended the event on Saturday night. It was part of her "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran," or “Women No Longer Cry” world tour. Before the show, Shakira told Brazil’s TV Globo that she believes it will be the biggest concert of her career. The performance is part of Rio’s effort to boost the economy after major festivities such as the famous Carnival and New Year’s Eve festivities and before the monthlong Saint John’s Day celebrations in June. The mayor said the show could generate significant financial returns.

Fugees rapper Pras reports to prison to begin 14-year sentence

SAFFORD, Ariz (AP) — Grammy-winning rapper Prakazrel “Pras” Michel of the Fugees has reported to federal prison to begin a 14-year sentence following a conviction over illegally funneling millions of dollars in foreign contributions to former President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. Michel reported to prison Thursday, a spokesperson said, with federal records listing him as an inmate at a low-security correctional institution in Arizona. Michel, 53, was convicted in 2023 on 10 counts, including conspiracy and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government. He was sentenced late last year. An Oscar is lost, then found, after director forced to check it on a flight out of JFK

NEW YORK (AP) — After being forced to check his Academy Award on a trans-Atlantic flight, recent winner Pavel Talankin’s Oscar went missing before an airline tracked it down two days later. Talankin, who co-directed the best documentary winner “Mr. Nobody Against Putin,” didn’t expect to have to check his statuette for a flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport for Frankfurt, Germany, on Wednesday. But a Transportation Security Administration agent said it couldn’t go on board. Then, it disappeared. On Friday, the airline Lufthansa said it had found the Oscar and is expediting its return to Talankin.

Weinstein accuser finishes five days of tense testimony

NEW YORK (AP) — The accuser at Harvey Weinstein’s rape retrial has finished testifying. She returned to the witness stand Friday, a day after she said was having difficulty focusing. She faced further questioning from the former movie magnate’s lawyers. They spent the much of the day scrutinizing her communications and get-togethers with him after the alleged rape in March 2013. Weinstein says everything that happened between the two was consensual and part of a four-year, caring relationship. The trial continues Tuesday.
