As controversy swirls around late-night TV, here's what a new poll shows about who still watches
WASHINGTON (AP) — As late-night talk shows undergo major changes and controversy, a new poll finds most Americans don’t watch them regularly and the ones who do are more likely to be Democrats. The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll shows only about a quarter of Americans say they have watched a late-night show at least once a month in the past year. But about one-third of Democrats say they’ve done this monthly over the last year, compared with about 2 in 10 Republicans or independents. The poll was conducted after the announcement of Stephen Colbert’s show being canceled but before Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension.

Kimmel's career began in Las Vegas radio, and he rose to fame with Comedy Central's “Win Ben Stein’s Money.” He became the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in 2003. His future remains uncertain as his contract with ABC expires in 2026.

Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon hosted their late-night shows using a mix of humor and solidarity with suspended ABC host Jimmy Kimmel. Stewart opted for satire to critique ABC suspending “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” indefinitely following comments he made about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Colbert took a more serious approach, calling his suspension “blatant censorship.” Fallon praised Kimmel and vowed to keep doing his show as usual but an announcer replaced most of his critiques about President Donald Trump with praise.
Willie Nelson and Neil Young highlight 40th Farm Aid concert
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Farm Aid celebrates its 40th anniversary Saturday in Minneapolis. The concerts, launched by Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp in the farm crisis of the 1980s, continue to raise awareness about the plight of family farmers. Bob Dylan is a late addition to the program. They'll be joined at the University of Minnesota by artists including Dave Matthews and Kenny Chesney. A labor dispute between the university and Teamsters almost scuttled the festival, but a deal was reached late last week. Farm Aid raises over $1 million annually. Nathaniel Rateliff, a returning performer, says the event highlights music's power to unite across political divides.

Frida Kahlo portrait could sell for $60 million and shatter records at Sotheby's
LONDON (AP) — A self-portrait by Frida Kahlo could set records when it is sold at auction in November. “El sueño (La cama)” has an estimated price of $40 to $60 million. It may surpass the highest price for a female artist's work, currently $44.4 million for Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1.” The painting, created in 1940, depicts Kahlo in a four-poster bed with a skeleton lying atop it. Sotheby's expert Julian Dawes says it's a psychological self-portrait by an artist at her peak. It’s part of a Nov. 8 sale featuring over 100 surrealist works. Interest in surrealism is rising, with the genre’s market share increasing significantly in recent years.
