Carlmont 7, Hillsdale 0
Reigning Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division champion Carlmont (1-0) opened the season with a convincing win at home over Hillsdale (0-1). No. 1 single Chloe Khachadourian and No. 2 Zoe Hendricks each swept 6-0, 6-0; while No. 3 Amelie Du Chau bounced back to win 4-6, 6-0, 10-2; and No. 4 Vania Pala won 6-1, 6-0. No. 1 doubles Ashwika Narayan and Radhika Agrawal won 6-1, 6-1; while No. 2s Avani Dixit and Chloe Rui, and No. 3s Bhavya Raman and Haely Kwok won 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Scots earned their first outright PAL Bay championship last season. They previous shared the league title with Hillsdale in 2013 and earned the PAL Ocean crown in 2000.
Half Moon Bay 4, San Mateo 3
The Cougars (1-0 PAL Bay) opened the PAL Bay Division season with a closely contested home win, relying on their No. 2 and 3 doubles players to get past San Mateo (0-1). HMB’s No. 2 doubles Vivienne Branham and Gwen Kenna-O’Reilly and No. 3 doubles Zoe Kirsch and Fiona Lucas each won in super tiebreakers, while No. 2 single Garcia Guzman and No. 4 Lauren McClellan won in straight sets. San Mateo No. 1 single Ashika Mukherjee and No. 1 doubles Tatum Fritz and Francesca Wesley won in straight sets.
Burlingame 6, Menlo-Atherton 1
M-A No. 1 Tessa Ellingson cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win, but it was the Bears’ only victory on the day as Burlingame (1-0) won it at home. Burlingame No. 1 doubles Lexi Podkaminer and Hailey Miller earned a notable comeback 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 against Holly Cheung and Acacia Yoon; while No. 2s Ella Wang and Lyra Sheng, and No. 3s Ella Vuong and Greta Martin helped sweep doubles play for the Panthers. M-A (0-1) is a longtime power in the PAL Bay, having won eight straight league titles from 2014-22 before Carlmont snapped the streak last season.
Aragon 7, Sequoia 0
The Lady Dons (1-0) swept every set in doubles play, paced by No. 1s Jessa Williams and Allison Newman rolling to a 6-0, 6-4 victory. Aragon No. 1 single Ella Teng defeated Sasha Efimchik 6-2, 6-2; while Sequoia snuck its only set win at No. 4 singles with Aragon’s Taylor Lee earning a comeback 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 over Xennia Ma.
El Camino 7, South City 0
The Lady Colts (1-0) opened their PAL Ocean Division season with an impressive sweep over archrival South City (0-1), dropping just four sets as a team. No. 1 single Yasmeen Juhar won 6-0, 6-2; while No. 2 Lia Woo, No. 3 Zayna Juhar, and No. 4 Sarahi Avila won 6-0, 6-0. No. 1 doubles Madison Woo and Zoei Ng also won 6-0, 6-0; while No. 2s Sammi Fang and Scarlett Tong, and No. 3s Kaylee Hui and Maddy Valenzuela won 6-0, 6-1.
Capuchino 5, Westmoor 2
The Lady Mustangs (1-0) were led by Maddy Ciardella at No. 1 singles to win their PAL Ocean opener at Westmoor (0-1). Ciardella defeated Shannon Mercado 6-1, 6-2; while Cap No. 1 doubles Amelia Bautista and Lola Sierra won 6-3, 6-4 over Erin Furete and Ayesha Garcia. Westmoor got wins at No. 4 singles from Stephanie Lim 6-3, 6-4; and at No. 4 doubles from Gaspara Lim and Gabriela Cospin 7-5, 6-1.
Mills 7, Terra Nova 0
All four Mills (1-0) singles players pitched shutouts at home against Terra Nova (0-1) , with No. 1 single Kylie Huynh, No. 2 Kaylee Chang, No. 3 Maya Dolmage, and No. 4 Sophia Lee winning 6-0, 6-0. Doubles play was more contentious, with Mills No. 1s Nataie Cheng and Taylor Gee defeating Madison Shurko and Amelia Roberts 7-5, 6-1; No. 2s Emily Anning and Moe Ohnogi defeating Alexis Smith and Avery Ayers 7-5, 1-6, 10-8; and No. 3s Meagan So and Olivia Chang defeating Liah Tradee and Kaylan Tran 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.
Woodside 7, Oceana 0
The Wildcats (1-0) didn’t drop a set in their PAL Ocean opener at home against Oceana (0-1). No. 1 single Camilla Serng led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 victory; while No. 1 doubles Chloe De Leon and Isabella Shivananoa won 6-4, 7-5 over Cassandra Amador and Lilah Hung.
Volleyball
Notre Dame-Belmont 3, Carlmont 0
The Tigers (5-0) won their fifth straight to start the year, taking down Carlmont (4-5) in the Battle for Belmont 25-22, 25-20, 25-20. Junior outside hitter Gia Rivera recorded her fourth double-double of the year, totaling 22 kills and 14 digs, while adding three service aces and swinging at a .372 clip. Senior opposite Paige Lambert added nine kills, Adrianna Agresti totaled 16 digs, and junior setter Arianna Juarez had 11 digs for NDB.
Mercy-Burlingame 3, Hillsdale 0

The Bears (6-2) won their second straight, sweeping 25-10, 25-11, 25-17 at Hillsdale (2-2). Mercy senior Ava Cacao scored a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, senior middle Mia Ferdinand totaled eight kills and three blocks, and senior Lana Trehan peeled off four aces. Senior libero Amira Festejo Rivera led the defense with 15 digs.

Jefferson (1-2) mounted a big comeback to earn its first win of the season 18-25, 22-25, 27-25, 25-22, 17-15 at San Jose (0-4).

Eric Lin erupted for seven goals, and Nicolai Asmar added six as the Bearcats (1-0 PAL Ocean) won their PAL Ocean Division opener at home against Terra Nova (1-0). Jonathan Martins-Rettes scored a hat trick for the Tigers.

Carlmont 221, Menlo-Atherton 299
Co-captain Elle Molholm shot a low-round 39 lead the Scots past the Bears at Stanford Golf Course.
Sophomore Karuna Mungali carded a 41 for Carlmont, while freshman Tessa Lee shot a 45. Kara Kim, Dakota Chang and Kathryn Winters all finished with 48s.
Carlmont head coach Hari Kurup said in an email one of the highlights of the day was a group picture with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who was playing in the group of ahead of the first high school foursome.
