Boys’ tennis
Aragon 4, Carlmont 3
The Dons were down a set in five of the seven matches when rain suspended the match Thursday.
The teams returned to the Aragon courts Friday to finish the match, with the Dons rally for the win.
The No. 2 singles match decided this one. Aragon Daniel Duan and Carlmont’s Daniel Arakaki split the first two sets: Arakaki took the first 6-3, with Duan returning the favor in the second, 6-3.
Duan then fell behind 5-0 in the third before winning seven straight games to win the set 7-5 and give the Dons the victory.
Aragon (7-1 PAL Bay, 10-2 overall) lost at No. 1 singles, where Carlmont’s Milad Shafaie posted a 6-1, 6-4 win, and also at No. 2 doubles, when the Dons’ duo of Sean Hsu and Tyler Khun were forced to retire because of injury.
Carlmont (4-3) picked up its third win at No. 1 doubles where Jerry Liu and Iman Shafaie prevailed in straight sets 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.
But then the Dons mounted their comeback. Ilan Leventhal lost the first set 6-3 to Carlmont’s Chris Cho, but Leventhal won the last two sets, 6-4, 6-4 to take the win. Jason Hauk and Nicky Dobbs won at No. 3 doubles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 and Arnav Kothari, who won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-5, but Carlmont’s Siddarth Srinivasan won the second set 6-2. Kothari got the point, however, with a 6-4 win in the third set.
Baseball
Burlingame 3, Terra Nova 2
Chase Funkhouser was 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored for Burlingame (4-1 PAL Bay, 6-2 overall) at Washington Park. Alex McMaster drove him in both times, in the third and in the fifth, after Burlingame got on the board in the second on an RBI double by Gino Lopiccolo.
Starting pitcher Noah Larkin worked six-plus innings to earn the win for the Panthers. He departed with two on and no outs clinging to a 3-1 lead. Tyler Moniz-Witten battled for the last three outs, getting some help from on outfield assist at the plate by right fielder Thomas McClure, to earn the save.
Terra Nova (1-2, 5-6) hosts the second game of the two-game series Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Sacred Heart Prep 8, Capuchino 0
Gator’s senior Nathan Fleischli pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11. The Mustangs (5-8 overall, 0-4 PAL Bay) offense was kept off-balance all game. Sacred Heart Prep’s (8-5-1, 4-2) Teddy Purcell, Will Moldow and Reece Lindquist each contributed two RBIs in the blowout win.
Girls’ Lacrosse
Sacred Heart Prep 11, St. Francis 3
The Gators (6-3 overall, 5-0 WBAL) did most of their damage in the first half. They scored early and often and held an 8-1 lead going into halftime. The Lancers (3-7, 1-5) lost the battle of possession and struggled to get scoring opportunities. Sacred Heart Prep senior Allison Carter played a great game and finished with two goals and two assists. Teammate Genna Gibbons scored two goals as well.

Softball
San Mateo 3, Carlmont 1, 9 innings
The Bearcats injected some life into the PAL Bay Division race by handing the Scots their first league loss of the season, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Its the second straight extra-inning win for San Mateo (3-1 PAL Bay, 5-2 overall). The Bearcats beat Half Moon Bay 5-3 in eight innings Tuesday.
Charlotte Velasquez, Izzy Borges and Kylie Galea each drove in a run for the Bearcats. San Mateo got a complete game effort from pitcher Sage Hager, who allowed one run on six hits.
Carlmont (3-1, 6-4) scored its run on an Ashley Trierweiler RBI in the fifth.
Boys’ volleyball
Carlmont 3, Mills 0
The Scots (10-2 overall, 10-0 PAL) got out to a hot start and won the first game by a staggering 25-4 margin. Calmont sophomore Justin Wong contributed three aces and sophomore Josh Ahn had four kills. Carlmont went on to win the next two games 25-18 and 25-11.
Girls’ swimming
San Mateo 119, Sequoia 52
Bearcat Kalyn Chang swam great and won the 100 butterfly, the 100 meter backstroke, and was a part of the winning 200 medley relay. Her teammate Emily Chinn was also a part of that 200 medley relay team and won the 200 meter individual medley and 100 breaststroke.
Girls’ lacrosse
Menlo-Atherton 20, Castilleja 3
Menlo-Atherton (6-3 overall, 4-1 WBAL) dominated from the get-go and played well as a team. The great passing led to a plethora of scoring opportunities and M-A capitalized. M-A junior Audrey Koren scored five goals and her teammate Theresa McGannon scored three goals.
Boys’ Tennis
Half Moon Bay 6, Oceana 1
All doubles matches were forfeited and the Cougar’s Phineas Lehan remains undefeated in No. 1 singles. Bitaro Tanaka and Noah Nemiccolo won their single matches as well.
College softball
San Mateo 9, West Valley 0
The Bulldogs only surrendered two hits all game as starting pitcher Emily McAdams kept opposing batters off-balance and finished the game with nine strikeouts. The Bearcats hit well as a team and totaled 13 hits. San Mateo’s Amanda Ubois-Weitenhagen had a monster game and hit two home runs to go along with five RBIs.
