Hillsborough 12, Redwood City 2
Will Duffell clubbed a three-run home run in the first, and Hillsborough went on to total 12 hits in a five-inning, mercy-rule win over Redwood City in an elimination game at Middlefield Ballpark.
Duffell finished with four RBIs, Colton Kung added two RBIs, and Finn Rowbotham and Jack Snethen racked up two hits apiece. The output marks the third double-digit scoring game for Hillsborough, who cruised through Saturday’s opener over Foster City 11-1, and won their first elimination game Monday 11-6 over Half Moon Bay.
Starting pitcher Thomas Ramirez, and relievers Kung and Will Cantwell combined to hold RWC to two hits. Ramirez threw just 37 pitches through 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run (none earned) on one hit and three walks, while striking out three. Kung bridged the game with 2 1/3 shutout innings of work, allowing one hit, one walk and one hit batsman. Cantwell closed it out by pitching one inning, allowing one run on three walks with three strikeouts.
Aidan Hogan and Caleb Verceluz each singled for RWC, who scored single runs in the second on an RBI groundout by Cayden Fagnini and in the fifth when Fagnini scored on a wild pitch. RWC used three pitchers, starter JJ Schaukowitch and relievers Elliot Ross and Jackson Williams.
Hillsborough advances through the elimination bracket to play Friday at 4 p.m. against the loser of Thursday’s matchup between San Mateo American and San Mateo National.
Foster City 6, Menlo-Atherton 2

Foster City scored three runs in the first and three more in the third, and pitchers Veer Gehani, Oliver Xia and Kamsuke Yoshimura combined to hold Menlo-Atherton to three hits in an elimination game at Middlefield Ballpark.
The first three batters of the game reached base for Foster City: Ben Lee led off with a single to right, Preston Spachis got hit by a pitch, and Xia delivered an RBI infield single. Ryunosuke Fujimoto followed with a sacrifice fly, and Skylar Ide singled on the infield to drive home Xia to make it 3-0.
M-A rallied with two outs to get one run back. Jackson Finato drew a two-out walk. Finato then stole second and moved to third on a passed ball, and Hudson Zwerin delivered an RBI infield single to close it to 3-1. It was as close as M-A would get, though, as Foster City rallied in the third with the top of the order again setting the table. Lee reached on an error to lead off the frame, Spachis singled to center, and Xia drilled an RBI single to center. Fujimoto lifted his second consecutive sacrifice fly, and Ide produced an RBI groundout to up the lead to 6-1.
Foster City added one more run in the fourth on an RBI triple from Jason Reese Jr. to drive home James Freeman.
Gehani earned the win for Foster City, allowing one run (none earned) on one hit, one walk and one hit batsman, while striking out five, through 2 1/3 innings. M-A starting pitcher Andrew Siegel worked five innings, while reliever Zach Trailer pitched a perfect sixth.
Foster City now advances through the elimination bracket, and will play Friday at 6:30 p.m. against the loser of Thursday’s game between Palo Alto and Alpine.
