College of San Mateo’s Alvin Chan, who had the swimming “performance of the meet” with his 46.95 seconds first-place time in the men’s 100-yard freestyle at the Coast Conference Championships, leads the Bulldogs into the California Community College Athletic Association state championships, held Thursday through Saturday at Santa Rosa Junior College. League coaches voted the award for Chan.

Chan was also second in the 50 free (21.49) and totaled 46 points in his individual swims.
Alec Sasano led the Bulldogs men with 48 points in the Coast Conference meet, hosted by CSM at the College Heights swimming complex. Olin Gawel provided 40 points and Tristan Renaud had 39.
Sasano took three bronze medals — in the 500 free, 400 individual medley, and the 200 breaststroke. CSM also got bronze performances from David Silvestre, in the 200 backstroke, and Gawel, in the 200 free.
The Bulldogs opened with a fourth-place swim in the 200-yard free relay (1:18.71) with Silvestre, Gawel, Renaud and anchor Chan (20.97).
CSM’s best relay finish was for the silver medal in the 800 free relay (7:42.22) with Sasano (1:47.91), Roman Brush (1:59.49), Enza Pozzobon (1:58.98), and Renaud (1:55.84).

The Bulldogs were third in both the 400 and 200-yard medley relays with a team of Silvestre (backstroke), Sasano (breaststroke), Chan (butterfly), and Gawel (free). That group closed the meet with a sixth-place finish in the 400 free relay, scoring 26 team points in the event.
The Gentleman Bulldogs had a strong fifth place in the men’s team scoring with 435 points. De Anza took the team title with 620.5 points.Lowings leads CSM women
The CSM women were led by Claire Lowings with a pair of bronze-medal finishes in the 100 and 200 freestyle races. She scored 46 individual points.
Iya Bonus totaled 42 points, placing fifth in three events — 500 free, 100 fly, and 100 breast. Anjali Marwah placed fourth in the 100 breast and scored a total of 39 points. Gizel Ortiz was fourth in the 100 individual medley.
CSM’s 800 medley relay quartet of Sascha Ehinger, Shayla Wong, Madison Godley and Sophia Christian placed fourth.
The Lady Bulldogs totaled 424 points for fifth place among the 12 women’s teams. Las Positas College won the title with 586 points.
CSM was fourth in the combined men’s and women’s team scoring with 859 points. Las Positas led with 1,095.
