BERKELEY — Courtney Ekmark scored 12 points, Kianna Ibis scored 11 and Arizona State handcuffed No. 23 Cal 57-42 Sunday.
Arizona State (15-7, 6-4 Pac-12) raced to a 14-0 lead and led 16-6 at the end of the first quarter. Jaelyn Brown’s jumper with 2:39 left in the first quarter was the first basket for the Bears. The Sun Devils pushed their lead to 22-6 when Ibis made back-to-back jumpers and Ekmark added a layup in consecutive possessions.
Cal (15-6, 6-4) shaved the deficit to 33-22 at halftime, but after the break, again could only muster six points and trailed by 16. The Bears never got closer than 13 the rest of the way.
Arizona State shot 25 of 54 (46 percent) from the field. Cal made just 15 of 53 (28 percent) and made only 2 of 19 from beyond the arc. Kristine Anigwe led the Bears with 15 points.
