Editor,
President Trump is rapidly becoming the best thing to ever happen to the Democratic party.
They will undoubtedly gain Congressional seats in the midterm elections. The same campaign strategy that failed Hillary — he’s an idiot, I’m not him, vote for me — may be enough this time around. The problem with this type of campaign is that our country will not get the best effort from our elected officials. Let me use the Warriors as an analogy. When the Warriors play a bottom-tier team we often don’t see their best game. They often get complacent. When they play the Rockets, their preparation and effort are at a higher level. The same thing is happening to the Democratic party. Their strategy is to bash Trump and many believe that merely putting a D after their name will get them elected. We hear nothing where they address the problems that got Trump elected in the first place.
An article in a major newspaper purported that from 2000-2015 the economic position of 80 percent of Americans was flat or they lost ground. Both parties failed 80 percent of Americans and it was their frustration with the political system and its gridlock that got Trump elected. Had Trump been what the 80 percent had hoped for, it would have forced the Democrats to raise their game and try to find solutions to real problems.
Instead they are coasting along and smiling as Trump self-destructs taking many in his party with him. We continue to read letters in this paper from party hardliners who point their finger at the other party as the source of all our country’s woes. We can only hope that someday they will realize that the only way things will improve is when they point that finger at their own party and demand better.

Not bad CC.
why do the Democrats need to win elections?, they have the Republicans in DC giving them everything they want. I think the Democrats are more effective when they are in the minority because as the budget being proposed shows us, the Democrats are getting all of their priorities just so the Republicans can throw gobs of money at our military. I think if Democrats want their priorities to become reality at the Federal level, just vote for Republicans so they can do the heavy lifting. Looking at the $1.3 trillion budget, the Republicans are not doing anything their voters wanted.
