Joe Guttenbeil’s articulate letter (Aug. 17-18 issue of the Daily Journal) about the use of our valued community newspaper’s pages by writers like Aadahl and Brenner to hurl insults week after week, eliminated my need to write you about the same topic.
I often look at the signature of the writer and, if it is one of them, I skip reading the content as I can easily anticipate  where they are going with it. Opposing points of view expressed intelligently and with respect  are welcomed and often integrated into my thought process.Â
It is a shame to waste so much energy in that manner when we could instead be volunteering at the local food bank, serving meals to the hungry or tutoring at our neighborhood schools.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Lopez-Guerra. It is a shame that much energy is wasted by the rabid left that also exposes us to their continued ignorance of the world we currently live in. But to be honest, do we really want these folks to be tutoring at our neighborhood schools? It may be debatable as to whether we want these folks serving meals to the hungry, as they’ll likely complain about the food being served and think they know better. I can understand allowing them to volunteer at the local food bank or some other non-customer interfacing position. Keep those letters coming, Mr. Lopez-Guerra.
Thanks for writing an LTE about LTEs that (IMO) actually distract and discourage a healthy exchange of ideas. Your suggestion to turn our focus toward local needs is a good one. Have a great weekend.
