I just finished reading your April 15 article by Dana Yates, entitled "City wants Expo land for park." What a fabulous article!
Speaking for most of our friends here in San Mateo, we have been praying for something like this. Although, I know nothing has been agreed upon, I just wanted to voice my opinion and hopefully the opinions of so many other parents. I totally agree with the "Rose Bowl Solution," as it will not only satisfy the Expo Center's (once in awhile) full parking concerns, but it will also provide a haven for the children of our community, just like Central Park. Our goal as parents, is to provide sports and recreation for our children, to keep them active and off the streets. I believe I speak for most of the parents of our community, when I say that an active child is a child that will learn to believe in themselves, will learn that they can reach for the stars, will learn that through sports and staying active, they are capable of accomplishing so much more.
We have lived in San Mateo for over 20 years now and have met so many wonderful people! Our children continue to be active in sports and continue to make so many new friends. It's a wonderful community. I sat on the board for the San Mateo Youth Softball Association for over three years and loved being around the children and a part of their lives - helping them to grow and believe in themselves. "They" are the reason I continue to feel so young and try to enjoy life to it's fullest because "they" still know how to have fun! The issue we continue to have at Chanteloup Field and all the other schools in the area. There is never enough space, recreation centers or parks for the various sports (i.e., soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, volleyball, etc.).
Since the city of San Mateo officials are now exploring the possibility of converting a portion of the Expo Center parking lot into a playing field, maybe they would consider the idea of turning this 10+ acre park into a sports complex, as well as a park for families to hold picnics, BBQs, etc.

Remember our children are the backbone to the future! Let's continue to grow and support them.
Personally, I would be willing to volunteer my time to help make this happen. Thank you for your time.
